Whiteford Burrows

A National Trust dune system and pine woodland adjoining Whiteford Sands — one of the finest spots on north Gower for wildlife watching, quiet walking and escaping into untouched coastal landscape.

About the Reserve

Dunes, Pines and Estuary Views

Whiteford Burrows is a National Trust managed nature reserve at the northern tip of the Gower Peninsula, combining an extensive sand dune system with a distinctive belt of Corsican and Scots pine woodland. The reserve adjoins Whiteford Sands to the north, making it easy to combine a walk through the burrows with time on the beach.

The reserve is exceptional for birdwatching — the estuary views bring waders, wildfowl and occasional raptors — and the pines shelter a range of woodland species. It's also one of the most peaceful places on Gower, with visitor numbers far below those of the south coast beaches.
